Hemanth Nimbalkar took charge as the IGP (Western range) from P Harishekaran, in Mangaluru on Wednesday. The range comprises of Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru district police units.

P Harishekaran has been transferred to Bengaluru as IGP (Headquarters).

Speaking to reporters after taking charge, Nimbalkar said that he had worked in Dakshina Kannada during his probationary period. He had also worked as SP of Chikkamagaluru in 2009.

He said that all the services in the Police department should reach the common man. Stringent action will be initiated against those persons/groups who are engaged in disrupting peace and are involved in criminal activities. He said he will give priority to check crime and to provide people-friendly policing to the people in the range.
