<p>Bengaluru: Expressing deep concern over reports of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) laying off 12,000 employees, Labour Minister Santosh Lad on Thursday said his department has sought an explanation from India’s largest IT service firm over its decision. </p>.<p>Speaking to reporters, Lad said that a union had submitted a letter to the department three days ago, raising concerns over the layoffs. “Three days ago, a union submitted a letter. Our department is looking into it,” he confirmed.</p>.<p>Explaining that in an effort to promote sunrise industries, the Karnataka exempts IT and ITeS from Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, he noted that “to promote sunrise industries, they are always kept out of the labour law ambit... but there are conditions attached to it.” </p>.KCS Rules requires only publishing of ineligible voting members’ list: Karnataka High Court.<p>He further insisted that such companies will have to speak with the government when they (companies) make such decisions.</p>.<p>Responding to a query about whether the state government initiated any action on TCS, Lad said, “There are conditions. We cannot act in a hurry. We need to carefully examine the whole situation. Then we can talk about action.” </p>.<p>The meeting between TCS representatives and the government is slated for August 6. </p>
