MIT to host Smart India Hackathon 2019

Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), MAHE will be one of the 48 nodal centers for the finale of Smart India Hackathon (SIH) organised by the Government of India across the country simultaneously, on March 2 and 3.

The hackathon aims to promote digital drive and encourage digital nous to make growth a mass programme and put governance within everyone’s reach through innovation and entrepreneurship. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and address the participants across centers through a video link. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar will also address the participants. The chairman of AICTE, Prof Anil Sahasrabudhe and Co-Chair of AICTE, Dr Anand Deshpande will also address the students.

A total of 24 teams with about 200 students including 60 girls, along with their mentors, will take part in the competition in Manipal. Winners will get cash prizes.

The inaugural function will be witnessed by domain experts, senior professionals from the IT sector and those assigned to judge the event at Manipal. Dr Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar of MAHE and Dr Srikanth Rao, Director, MIT will be present at the inauguration at MIT Library.

Smart India Hackathon is a non-stop software product development competition, where problem statements are modeled to technical students for innovative solutions. The initiative is perceived as a building block for ‘Start-up India’ campaign, crowdsource solutions for improving quality of life, and provide an opportunity for the people to provide innovative solutions for problems faced by our country.

The first two editions SIH2017 and SIH2018 were successful in promoting innovation, out-of-the-box thinking in young minds, especially engineering students from across India.

AICTE and MHRD have collaborated with i4c, Persistent Systems, Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, UGC, NIC, MyGov and other multi-national companies to organize Smart India Hackathon-2019. Over one lakh students will participate in the hackathon at the 26 centers across the country.
