Each year, India Post, conducts stamp design contests at senior and junior levels. This year, the theme was ‘Save the Tiger’.

The drawing by Shreeraksha, a student of Canara Girls’ High School, Dongerkery here, won the first place in the State and national level competitions held last December.

Budding artist
For the first time, a student from Dakshina Kannada has achieved this feat. Shreeraksha, a regular face in major drawing competitions in the State, told Deccan Herald she is proud to get this honour.

Shreeraksha, who is from Bejai, is the daughter of Rajaram Nayak and Shalini Kamath, both graduate assistants in Canara Girls’ High School. She was awarded in New Delhi on February 12 and also got a chance to meet the President, Pratibha Patil.

This 11-year-old girl is learning drawing since kindergarten. But the ‘star’ of Canara Girls’ High School cannot participate in the stamp releasing function in Delhi on Children’s Day nor the function in Mangalore as she is in Bangalore for a national level drawing competition.
