Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President and Home Minister G Parameshwara on Sunday played the dalit chief minister card once again.

Speaking at a function in Bengaluru to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar said it was unfortunate that a dalits was yet to become chief minister.

Parameshwara’s statement comes at a time when his supporters have been clamouring that he be made the first dalit chief minister of the state.

“It is unfortunate that dalits are born as Hindus. The community is yet to be accepted by society. It hurts when one is called a dalit despite having climbed the social ladder,” Parameshwara said. He said Brahmins had changed over time with some turning non-vegetarians, whereas the social status of dalits is stagnant.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters in Vijayapura, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that no one was against a dalit becoming a chief minister of the state and the high command would decide on it.
