‘PU Board has not responded’

Following severe water crisis, deputy director of PU Board in Udupi has written to PU Board impressing on the need to postpone the reopening of PU colleges.

The colleges are set to reopen from May 20.

DDPU Subramanya Joshi told DH that he along with other authorities had tried to convince the PU Board over the postponing of dates for reopening of the colleges. “However, the Board has not responded.”

He said there were certain prerequisites along with the compulsion of completing 210 working days and also completing the syllabus. “Hence, the Board is firm on its decision on reopening date.”

The vacation for PU Colleges commenced on March 19 as against in the month of April during the previous years. He said that the water problems will surely arise. But it may not pose severe threat. Rain will commence by the first week of June. Hence the problem will be there for only 10 days, he added.

A few days in the beginning will be used for the constructive purpose like planning, designing the bridge courses and revision.

DDPI Sheshashayana said that he had approached the government requesting for delaying the reopening of the schools in the district.

“However till now, there is no response from the government.
