Raichur district hospital sees 5th maternal death in 3 months

Raichur: A 24-year-old woman died three days after giving birth to a baby at the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital here on Sunday.

Saraswati, a native of Haddinal in Devadurg taluk, had delivered her fourth child, a boy, on January 2 through C-section at the RIMS. Following the delivery, she was shifted to ICU to treat her hypertension. She failed to respond to the treatment and died on Sunday, Dr Bhaskar, medical superintendent, RIMS, told DH.

A series of maternal deaths in the district has raised concerns. As many as 12 pregnant/lactating women have died in the district in the last three months with RIMS accounting for five of them.
