Sowing the seeds of change: Govt schoolkids draw inspiration from impact stories

Bengaluru: Students from Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS) School from Anekal, run by the social welfare department, had the unique opportunity to interact with the DH Changemakers 2025. 

The social welfare department runs 800 such schools in the state.

They collectively said that this interaction not only enriched their minds but also inspired them to make a positive change in society. 

Twenty residential school students interacted with the 15 Changemakers where they posed questions to the Changemakers based on their respective fields from education and literature to food habits and the advantages of natural dye over chemical dyes. 

The students were elated to be a part of the discussion and felt like it was a day well spent.  

Sunitha, a student at Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential School and PU College said that she was inspired by changemaker Shriya Shankar’s educational initiative.

“I am in awe of how she has made science available to everyone. She has got me and many other students interested in science,” she
added. “I want to do something similar in the medical field and help society in the same way,” she said. 

Another student Annapoorna said that she understood that to be successful, one has to take the mainstream path.

“I was inspired by the young Changemakers to do something different and do good for society,” she said. 

Yet another student Komaladas was taken in by how a changemaker used art and music to help the downtrodden.

“We sometimes feel helpless to solve a problem. After coming here, I feel like something can be done to change things. We can organise activities or even use social media to make an impact,” she added.
