A migrant labourer was shot dead by militants in north Kashmir's Bandipora district during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

“During intervening night, #terrorists fired upon & injured one outside #labourer Mohd Amrez S/O Mohd Jalil R/O Madhepura Besarh #Bihar at Soadnara Sumbal, #Bandipora,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

The police said Amrez was shifted to a hospital for treatment where he succumbed to the injuries.

Last week, another migrant labourer from Bihar was killed and two others were injured during a militant attack in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The injured labourers, Mohammad Arif and Mohammad Maqbool, were also from Bihar.

Earlier on June 2, a non-local brick-kiln labourer was shot dead and another injured by militants in Magraypora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Killings of the members of minority community and non-local labourers started after the Centre abrogated erstwhile state’s special status under Article 370 in August 2019.

However, since last October, militants have stepped up attacks on migrant labourers and non-locals in Kashmir. The Resistance Front, a shadow outfit of banned Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group, has claimed responsibility for most of these attacks.

TRF has warned that people working with the RSS, intelligence agencies and everyone other than indigenous Kashmiris would be treated as “occupiers” if they purchase property in J&K and are targeted.
