<p>“The post-mortem report has confirmed that she committed suicide by hanging herself. We are still investigating the motives which could have led her to take the extreme step,” Additional Police Commissioner (west) Amitabh Gupta told reporters here on Saturday.<br />Shooting to fame in the mid-1990s with her Kamasutra condom ads, the 37-year old Viveka was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her living room by her neighbours in Continental Apartments, Bandra West, on Friday night.<br /> Initial investigations hinted that Viveka committed suicide and also left the gas open to camouflage the smell emitting from a dead body.<br /><br />Suspecting a gas leak, some neighbours rang the doorbell outside her flat but got no response. They alerted the fire brigade and police, who later found her body dangling from the ceiling fan. Viveka’s friends, associates, neighbours and other eyewitnesses were being questioned to unravel the mystery behind the suicide, the Additional Commissioner said.<br />The Khar Police searched her apartment and found some drawers open with some pictures lying on the floor. <br /><br />Police has seized her mobile phone, a laptop and other articles which could lead them to the motives behind her suicide. A polythene bag containing medicines which include sleeping pills was also recovered. Police also found a diary with words “I kill” written on the last page. <br /><br />The investigators recovered a number of letters addressed to one Gautam, most likely her boyfriend. “According to her friends, Gautam and Viveka were dating since the past few months. We are yet to call Gautam for questioning,” a senior police official said. It is learnt from Viveka’s acquaintances that on the evening of June 24, she had fought with him over phone. <br /><br />No foul play<br />“Post mortem report received from Cooper Hospital states that the model died as a result of hanging. There appears to be no foul play,” said Khar Police Station Senior Inspector Mangesh Pote.<br />Viveka’s family members are expected to arrive in Mumbai on Saturday from Mauritius to take her body.<br /><br />Viveka had acted in Hindi movie “Ye Kaisi Mohabbat Hai”, that did not work at the box office. She had also tried to make a career in the south Indian film industry but with no luck. She was seen on and off on the ramp at various fashion events in recent times.
