Modi rattled by Opposition unity: Congress

The Congress on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was rattled by the Opposition show of strength in Kolkata on Saturday, which is the reason for his constant barbs at his rivals.

Since the 'United India at Brigade' rally in Kolkata, Modi has twice referred to the Opposition unity in his public interactions and sought to paint it as an 'alliance of the corrupt and dynasts”.

Modi even mocked the Opposition saying they were crying for help as his government had launched a crusade against corruption.

“With the evolution of Opposition unity their body language has changed. Fear is visible. Earlier, they used to say that the BJP will remain in power for 50 years. Now they are saying if they lose they won't come back in power for 200 years,” senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel said.

Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the Lok Sabha elections would be a contest between Modi and the people of the country which was fed up of the BJP's “deceptive ways”.

Singling out HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar's remarks that the nation would witness anarchy if Modi was voted out, Singhvi said the comments reflected the arrogance of power.

The Congress leader said on hearing the HRD Minister, he was reminded of French Emperor Louis XV's remark — 'after us, the deluge'.

“We all know what happened to Louis XV and his wife they lost the war, they were completely insulted and thrown into the dustbin of history,” he said.

On Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's description of the Opposition as the “legacy of chaos”, Singhvi said the BJP had proved the legacy of chaos in 1997 and most recently in Jammu and Kashmir.
