Alpesh Thakore, the young OBC leader coordinating a movement against the Patel stir for quotas, set out on a yatra from Ahmedabad to Somnath which received an overwhelming response.

The yatra, dubbed ‘I am a sad Gujarat’, was set out to cover all the 182 Assembly constituencies of the state, highlighting the issues dogging the OBCs, SCs and STs that Thakore is trying to bring under one umbrella to confront Hardik Patel’s Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS).

Though the plan was that 182 cars would join the yatra, over 500 lined up in the beginning with more taking part en route and creating traffic snarls on certain highways.

The cavalcade is expected to reach the temple town of Somnath on Sunday night, where Thakore would rest for the night and address his supporters Monday morning. He would raise some key issues and seek the position of the government and the opposition Congress.
