A committee set up to examine the 7th Central Pay Commission’s (CPC) recommendations on allowances has suggesting changes in allowances aloted to the railways, postal and defence personnel.

“Modifications have been suggested in some allowances which are applicable universally to all employees as well as certain other allowances which apply to specific employee categories, such as railway men, postal employees, scientists, defence forces personnel, doctors and nurses,” the Ministry of Finance stated, without elaborating.

The Committee on Allowances, headed by Finance Secretary Ashok Lavasa, submitted the report to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday.

The report will be placed before the Cabinet for its approval, officials said. The recommendations of the 7th CPC on pay and pension were implemented but that of allowances was refereed to the committee after significant changes were recommended by the commission.
