Missing Tamil Nadu man reunites with family after six months

Mangaluru: In a heartwarming turn of events, Giri, a resident of Perumandi North Street in Melkavaeri village, Kumbakonam (Thanjavur district), was joyfully reunited with his family, after being missing for six months.

The reunion, facilitated by Snehalaya Charitable Trust, Manjeshwara in Kasargod, brought immense happiness to his father, mother, and two sisters.

Giri, who is unmarried, had been struggling with mental health issues for the past two years. Despite receiving treatment, his condition did not improve as he was not consistently taking his prescribed medications. This was not the first time he had gone missing.

On March 22, he was admitted to Snehalaya Charitable Trust, thanks to the efforts of Eshwar Malpe - popularly known as “Aqua Man” - a self-taught underwater search specialist. He played a key role in getting Giri the help he needed.

After receiving comprehensive treatment at Snehalaya, Giri was shifted to Shraddha Foundation on April 11, for continued care and support. Following weeks of dedicated efforts, the trust was able to successfully trace and reunite him with his family.

Giri’s father, a painter, and their financially struggling family were overjoyed at his return. The entire village of Melkavaeri, including neighbours and well-wishers, joined in the celebrations, giving Giri a warm welcome. To support his recovery, he has been provided with a two-month supply of aftercare medication.

The positive response from the community reflects the village’s unity and compassion. This reunion underscores the work of Snehalaya Charitable Trust, which has helped reunite over 1,600 individuals with their families across the country, said Joseph Crasta, Managing Trustee of Snehalaya.
