<p>Guwahati: A special NIA court here sentenced two persons from Assam's Barpeta district for their involvement with Ansarul Bangla Team (ABT), a Bangladesh-based terror group linked to Al Qaeda in the Indian Sub-Continent (AQIS). </p><p>The NIA on Thursday said the two accused, Mamunur Rashid and Mukibul Hussain were sentenced on Wednesday after they were found guilty under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and IPC. </p>.Delhi High Court seeks NIA's stand on J&K MP Rashid Engineer's plea in terror case.<p>Mamunur was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs. 1,000 in default. He was also sentenced to imprisonment of three months under section 120(B) IPC. The accused has already completed imprisonment of two years and 10 months. </p><p>Hussain was sentenced to simple imprisonment of six months and fine of Rs 500, as well as simple imprisonment of 14 days u/s 120(B) IPC. Like his co-accused Mamunur, he was also sentenced to imprisonment for the period already undergone (two years eight month 13 days) under sections 20/38/39 UAPA Act, NIA said in a statement.</p><p>The two were arrested during a crackdown launched by Assam police in March 2022. Police said the ABT established a module, led by Bangladeshi national Saiful Islam alias Haroon Rashid, in Barpeta district. </p><p>NIA had filed a chargesheet in the case against eight accused in August 2022, followed by a supplementary chargesheet against two others in August 2023. Further investigation and trial in the case continues, said the statement.</p>
