<p>NDA after a meeting on Sunday announced Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the Vice Presidential elections.</p><p>The post of VP got vacant after the surprise exit of Jagdeep Dhankhar.</p><p>"CP Radhakrishnan, considered a statesman, commands respect in all sections of society in Tamil Nadu," BJP chief JP Nadda said after the announcement.</p><p>"We want next vice president to be elected unanimously, we have reached out to opposition leaders," he added.</p><p><strong>Who is CP Radhakrishnan</strong></p><p>Radhakrishnan is a two-time MP from Coimbatore and is from the old guard of the BJP having worked under A B Vajpayee and L K Advani.</p>.Explained | How India elects its Vice-President.<p>Born on October 20, 1957, in Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan joined the RSS in the 1970s and became a State Executive Committee Member of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1974.</p><p>He hails from the dominant Gounder community which former TN BJP chief K Annamalai also belongs to.</p><p>He was appointed as Governor in 2023 to make way for leaders like Annamalai, who contested from Coimbatore in 2024.</p><p><em>(With PTI and DHNS inputs)</em></p>
