A feast of dance and music

Indira Nagar Sangeetha Sabha is holding the ‘Annual Music and Dance Festival 2016’ from January 23 to 29. Renowned artistes from the field of classical music, dance and instrumental music will feature in the cultural extravaganza. The inaugural function will be held on January 23, 5 pm.

The prestigious ‘Purandara Award’ will be conferred to TV Sankaranarayanan (Carnatic music – vocal), the ‘Yuva Purandara Awards’ will go to Amrutha Venkatesh, S Subhalakashmi and S Sornalatha.

On January 23, a violin duet will be presented by S Subhalakashmi and S Sornalatha. Popularly known as ‘Akkarai Sisters’, they are sought after for their violin and vocal duets. On January 24, 5.30 pm, there will be a concert by TV Sankaranarayanan, an eminent and popular Carnatic vocalist, known for his vibrant music and colourful delineation of the ‘Swaraprastaram’.

On January 25, 6 pm, ‘Fire and Ash’, a thematic multi-genre production by JustUs Repertory, conceived, and directed by Dr Gowri Ramnarayan, combining dance, music, poetry and painting will be presented. As part of ‘Bharat Ratna Dr MS Subbulakshmi Birth Centenary Commemoration’, an audio-video presentation by Gowri Ramnarayan will be held on January 26, 9.30 am.

At 6 pm, a piano concert (Hindustani classical) by Utsav Lal — the 22-year-old musical prodigy who has set a precedent in the world of music with his rendition of ragas on the piano, will be conducted.  The musician is a delight to watch as he loses himself to his music and fingers follow the pace of the mind.

On January 27, 6.30 pm, ‘The Dancing Tales’, a kuchipudi duet by  Vyjayanthi Kashi and Pratheeksha Kashi is being held.

A violin duet by violin maestros Mysore M Nagaraj and Mysore M Manjunath will be held on January 28, 5.30 pm. On January 29, 5:30 pm, listen to a Carnatic vocal recital by Amrutha Venkatesh.
