Every new year brings with it a mix of old and new trends and 2019 is no different. Customisation and minimalism are the buzzwords, fashion gurus tell Metrolife.

Laser cuts, frills and layers will continue to dominate

Get ready for more sequinned, asymmetrical and bodycon outfits this year. Say yes to bell-sleeves but keep those cut-out shoulder outfits in the wardrobe itself. Delhi-based designer Shivangi Bajpai, of label ‘Pinessaa’, says, “Fabric manipulation is a huge thing in fashion this year. 3D surface work, laser cuts, frills, pleats and layers are all ready to become wardrobe staples.”

Classic bell bottoms to stay in vogue

Comfort will be the key in 2019. However fashionable one might be, people are not giving up on comfort, says Neha Sharma, co-owner of ‘Pinessaa’. “Wide-bottom pants with tops, pleated mid-length and long skirts in solid colours and jumpsuits will be favourites this year. In Indian wear, shararas and peplum tops are trending. Also, one should opt for breathable fabrics like organza satin and glaze cotton. They will add to your style statement while also keeping you comfortable.”

It’s the year of sneakers

In footwear, sneakers retain their numero uno position by virtue of being versatile and comfortable. Flat foot sandals with sequin work are also popular but the stylish heels are now occasion-wear.

Prints get louder

Loud prints are making a comeback. Since people are now more camera-friendly, elaborate prints like floral and geometric, that accentuate a photograph, are preferred.

Colour palette

Though pastel colours will dominate the ramp this season, bright colours will not be left behind. Khaki, wine and blues, along with living coral and yellow, are the hues to stock up this year.
