Camilla Hurrell

She started her career as a hairdresser in 2004, right after her school. Camilla Hurrell, the principal colourist at Sassoon Academy is known for her warm and bubbly personality and her expertise in colour makes her one of the most popular faces among her clients.

She has travelled all over the world with the International Creative Team, delivering shows and seminars to thousands of hairdressers.

Camilla who was in the city recently to launch Sassoon Academy by Bodycraft, talks to Surupasree Sarmmah about the trending hairstyles, her interest in the profession and more.

What are the some of the most trending hairstyles of 2018?

Sassoon has been working on lots of layered hairstyles which have found favour amongst our clientele, particularly those with a slightly retro seventies feel. For the more adventurous the ‘mullet’.

For someone, a little more refined the layered bob is proving extremely popular as it offers the wearer so many styling options.

A hair colour forecast...

We predict that violet tones will be extremely popular this winter both in the icy blondes palette and rich violet browns.

One of your most challenging hairdos?

The classic bob is the most challenging as it is the simplest. When executed correctly, it makes your hair look expensive. Any flaws are impossible to hide.

What interested you in this profession?

One of our family friends, Pauline, owns Genesis Hair Company. I was about five years old when I started watching her colour my mum’s hair and be mesmerised with the way she did braids and wedding hair ups.

Even back then I knew this was the industry I wanted to be a part of. When I was 15, one of my school tutors told me about Vidal Sassoon, so I applied and was lucky enough to get in.
