Shiv-Hari coming to Bengaluru

Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, flute maestro, and Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, santoor maestro, are coming to Bengaluru to receive an award. The virtuosos, known across the world for their live concerts and recordings, worked together to create scores for such films as Silsila (starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha) and Chandni (starring Sridevi). They were also part of the pioneering 1967 album ‘Call of the Valley;’ they recorded meditative and folksy themes based on popular ragas.

The two maestros are receiving the Swaralaya Puraskar for their contribution to Indian music. The award will be presented by HCG and Swaralaya at a music festival between May 17 and 19 in Bengaluru this weekend at Ravindra Kalakshetra. The concerts begin at 6 pm.

Proceeds from the ticketed event go into a fund for economically marginalised cancer patients, according to a note from the hosts.

Artistes performing at the festival are Umayalpuram K Sivaraman, Giridhar Udupa, Srinivasan Doraiswamy, Vikram Rozario, Stephen Devassy, Odissi on High, Adishak Bali, Sachin Jambhekar and Attukal Bala Subramanyam.
