For most, social media is an integral part of their day. To keep up with the demands of their users and compete with new entrants, social media giants unveil new features now and then.

Metrolife puts together the latest features of some of these platforms that are doing the rounds.

WhatsApp
Forwarded label: To counter the proliferation of fake news, WhatsApp recently introduced a ‘Forwarded’ message label. It aims to fight against the spread of false information circulated through the messaging app. This will help users determine if a particular message has been forwarded and not created by the sender. To get this feature, users need to have the latest version of WhatsApp installed in the phones.

Facebook
Marketplace: Now sell, buy and rent on Facebook. Yes, you read that right. Thanks to Facebook’s new feature ‘Marketplace’, you can now ditch your regular online shopping sites and explore this feature. Post a picture of the product with all its details and wait for someone to contact you. A convenient feature for entrepreneurs and startups.

Instagram
IGTV: After the success of the ‘story’ feature, Instagram has now come up with IGTV. This feature enables one to create videos for an hour and share them on the platform. Your followers will be notified about the new video as soon as they log in to the platform. This can be a cool feature for aspiring lifestyle bloggers or musicians.

Ask me question: You must have seen this in your friends’ Instagram stories. ‘Ask me anything’ is a new feature of the photo-sharing app which allows followers to the person to ask him/her any questions on a real-time basis. It has gained a lot of popularity within a short span of time.

Gmail
Smart Compose: Google recently announced the launch of their latest feature for Gmail called ‘Smart Compose’. It is an extension of the existing Smart Reply feature. For Smart Compose, Google has put AI to full use. It will help one complete sentences while writing a mail, much like a smart keyboard of a phone. This is designed to save time, reduce repetitive writing, spelling and grammatical mistakes. How cool is that? Or is it creepy? We will find out when the feature is rolled out in a couple of months.
