Actress Sonnalli Seygall’s first film ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ was a super hit, after which, came more success with films like ‘Wedding Pulav’, ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2’ and ‘Sonu
Ke Titu Ki Sweety’.

Now, all set to charm her fans in a new avatar, Sonnalli is gearing up for ‘Setters’, a movie based on a real-life incident.

In a chat with Surupasree Sarmmah, the witty actress talks about her upcoming film, fitness and her unique spelling.

How did ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ changed your life?

This movie changed my life in many levels both personally and professionally. The most important thing was to firm my faith in the industry. I didn’t intend to take up acting but I had given a few auditions. ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ happened through a proper process of
an audition, then a meeting and so on. Thus the entire experience was really good. It gave me a ray of hope. Soon after, part two of the movie came my way and it went on; I have not looked back since.

Tell us about your upcoming action thriller - ‘Setters’.

We have almost completed shooting for the film now. I am definite that this is one of those films that will leave a mark. The movie, directed by Ashwini Chaudhary, is based on the exam paper scam in Uttar Pradesh. He is a very competent director and I was so excited to be a part of this film. I am playing the role of a cybercrime officer and sharing the screen space with Shreyas Talpade and Aftab Shivdasani.

What were the challenges?

Some of the areas we shot for the film included a lot of dirty areas and tiny lane. In fact, I took to my social media to talk about it too. There was this one scene in Banaras where we were doing a chase scene literally around piles of garbage. Breathing that air was so difficult that we were actually given masks. We thought we will actually fall sick.

You are a yoga freak. Did that help you execute your character?

Well, I can’t say particularly for this film, but I firmly believe that being a yoga enthusiast helps me in my art. I use various breathing techniques while delivering a shot. Yoga does help one to focus more and get one aligned.

How do you spend your time when you are not working?

Yoga takes up most of my time. Otherwise, I spend my time lazing around on my bed with my dog Bounty and watching movies on Netflix.

Three things one can find in your handbag...

Keys, lip balm and mobile phones... among thousands of other things.

Do you enjoy your celebrity status or is it too much to take some time?

It is never too much for me, I enjoy every moment of it. Of course, there are cons but that’s nothing in comparison to all the pros.

If you were given a chance, would you enter the Bigg Boss house?

No! I think I will fail miserably. I will be kicked out in a day. I don’t mind entering the house to promote one of my films though (laughs).

Is there a reason why your name has so many n’s and l’s?

Oh God, yes! (Laughs) My mother is into numerology. One day before ‘Pyaar Ka...2’ released, she suddenly came up to me and said, ‘from today, you are going to spell your name this way...’, I was like okay. But it’s kind of cool. I like how my name looks now.
