In a major breach of security in Delhi’s Metro service, two men managed to enter central Delhi’s Rajendra Place Metro station with a sharp object and stabbed a Metro official before fleeing with Rs 12 lakh cash on Monday morning.

The two men in their 20s entered the station at 5.14 am through gate No.2 and had their faces covered with pollution masks, said a Delhi Police official. “After that they climbed up to platform No. 2 through stairs, and knocked on the door of the control room’s office,” the police officer said.

As the duty station controller Kunal Kishore was busy on his phone he saw through the window that two men were trying to enter the room.

“Kishore asked them the reason they were knocking on the door, on which he was told that the two wanted to recharge their metro cards, and didn’t know where to go for it,” the police officer added.

A case of robbery has been registered at Rajouri Garden Metro police station.
