Another AAP MLA faces allegation over education details

Last Updated 11 June 2015, 16:27 IST

Days after former Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar's arrest, another AAP MLA has landed in a soup over alleged false declaration of educational credentials in his poll affidavit.

Former AAP MLA Rajesh Garg yesterday filed a complaint in this regard at the Prasant Vihar police station against Karol Bagh (Central) MLA Vishesh Ravi.

"In his 2013 poll affidavit he claimed to have B Com degrees from Chaudhary Charan Singh University and 12th marksheet from UP Board. But in his 2015 affidavit he claimed that he was pursuing BA (Programmme) from IGNOU," Garg said.

When asked about the alleged discrepancies, Ravi said he would look into his 2013 affidavit and requested to consider the 2015 affidavit to be the official one.

"Last time I had no electoral experience. I had to sign several papers so I do not remember as to what I had filed. But what I filed this time is completely true. I am pursuing BA programme from IGNOU," Ravi said.

Stopping short of admitting the alleged discrepancies, Ravi said that he was ready to "cooperate" in case any probe was initiated.

49-year-old Tomar, MLA from Delhi's Trinagar constituency and a first-time minister, was remanded in four-day police custody by a Delhi court on Tuesday.

Delhi Police has claimed that a nearly month-long investigation found that Tomar not only submitted fake science graduation degree and law mark sheets to register with the Bar Council of Delhi but forged a migration certificate also.
