AP reports 3,000 cases of poll code violations

Even as the countdown for the Ramachandrapuram by-elections is coming to a close, the authorities have seized Rs 1.64 crore cash and 7,000 litres of liquor from several people and the police have booked 3,000 cases of poll code violations.

General Observer of the bypoll Rajesh Bahuguna held a meeting with East Godavari District Collector Neetu Prasad and monitoring authorities on Saturday and directed the officials to ensure fair and peaceful bypolls for the reserved (SC) constituency in the East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh.

As many as 21 candidates are in fray for the polls scheduled for June 12. He requested the authorities to create a conducive atmosphere for smooth conducting of elections. “Voters’ slips are being distributed to ease problems of voters,” he added.

Superintendent of Police C M Trivikram Varma said the district administration has identified 44 polling stations as super-sensitive and 40 as sensitive.

“As many as 3,000 cases have been booked. We have requested the government to provide 14 sections of CRPF and 73 sections of Armed Reserve police to give adequate security,” he added.
