Baby battered by dad dies

A five-month-old baby girl from Bikaner, whose face had been bitten off by her father in a drunken rage, died at SMS hospital on Wednesday. 

Her drunken father said to have bitten off parts of the infant’s nose, lips and cheek at their home in Bikaner district last Thursday and the baby girl underwent three surgeries to repair the disfigurement.

Sawai Man Singh Hospital, where the girl had been treated, said: “The baby’s condition deteriorated last night after she was breastfed by her mother. She developed respiratory complications and was put on ventilator support, but the girl died on Wednesday morning."

Police said Bahadur Singh fought with his wife Santosh over a domestic affair. He then beat up his three-year-old daughter Bhanwari and bit the upper lip, nose and cheeks of the baby in a fit of rage. Police had arrested Bahadur Singh. He was booked under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt through dangerous weapons or means) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the IPC.
