Police personnel in Uttar Pradesh seem to be inventing unconventional reasons for getting leave.

Close on the heels of a policeman requesting his bosses to grant him leave to prevent his wife from deserting him, another cop has sought leave to expand his family.

Som Singh, a police constable posted at Kotwali police station in the state's Mahoba district, about 300 km from here, sought a month's leave to expand his family.

In the "reason" column of the leave requisition form, Singh wrote "parivaar badhane liye" (to expand family).

The station house office granted him 45 days leave apparently thinking that 30 days might not be enough to achieve the objective.

The matter came to the knowledge of senior police officers in the state capital after the leave requisition form somehow made its way to social networking sites.

Finding the reason cited for seeking leave bizarre and one that could make the police force a laughing stock, the officers got Singh to fill another requisition form citing a different reason, sources said.

A few days ago, a police constable, who was posted in the state capital, had written a letter to his boss requesting him to grant him leave for 10 days stating that his wife might desert him if he did not get to spend some time with her.
