Uttar Pradesh Police, it seems, do not want to let go any opportunity that may add to their already poor image.

A minor, who managed to thwart a bid to gang-rape her and approached the cops to register a complaint, had a shocking taste of the state police's investigation methods in Amethi district, about 150 km from here.

The officer who recorded her statement virtually tried to "rehearse" the rape bid act while reconstructing the incident. The shocked minor, who was accompanied by her mother, ran away from the police station apparently fearing that the officer would rape her.

The victim and her mother met senior police officials on Thursday and apprised them of the matter, sources said. A video of the minor narrating her ordeal inside the Musafirkhana Kotwali premises in the district also went viral on social networking sites.

According to the sources two youths barged into the house of the 15-year old girl a few days ago and tried to gang-rape her. The minor, however, managed to escape.

Accompanied by her mother, the victim approached the police at Musafirkhana Kotwali to lodge a complaint in this regard. One of the cops, however, took the victim to a secluded corner inside the premises and tried the "rehearsal", sources said.

The victim said that she did not know the name of the cop but added that she could recognise him if she saw him.

Senior officials promised a thorough probe into the matter.

Recently, a police constable had shot dead an Apple executive in the state capital when latter failed to stop his vehicle upon being signaled to halt. The incident had triggered a massive nationwide outrage.
