CPI general secy seeks security for Kanhaiya, Umar

Last Updated 16 April 2016, 21:26 IST

CPI General Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy on Saturday approached Home Minister Rajnath Singh seeking fool-proof security to JNU students Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid among others.

The request was done following continuing threats to the lives of the JNU students.
Reddy's demand in a letter to Singh came after the recovery of a country-made pistol with a letter threatening to kill Kumar and Khalid in a bus going to JNU.

Demanding action against Amit Jani, who claims to be the president of UP Nava Nirman Seva, who threatened to kill Kumar and Khalid, Reddy said he was surprised that the man was not arrested earlier in spite of open threats against JNU students.
Reddy said a section of people have spread wrong news and doctored videos to claim that Kumar and some Left students have raised anti-India slogans in JNU. The arrest of Kumar by the Delhi Police has added suspicions of misguided people, he said adding that no action was taken against the media houses that doctored the media.
‘Conspiracy’

"Meanwhile the statements of some BJP leaders including President Amit Shah and some MPs with political motive, saying that JNU has become the centre of anti-national elements got big publicity. The whole thing looks like a big well-planned conspiracy to physically eliminate Kanhaiya Kumar through some extreme elements like Amit Jani and pass it on as a fight between so-called nationalists and anti-national elements," Reddy said.

“No action on Amit Jani only proves our suspicions, in spite of his repeated threats etc. We are worried at the inaction on the part of the government in this regard,” he added.
