A gruesome new method of cattle smuggling has been spotted by the Border Security Force (BSF) near the India-Bangladesh border. During a river patrol, a team of BSF officials saw a carcass floating in the river and upon cutting it open, they found a live calf tied up inside it.

According to BSF sources the incident took place in the Mahananda river in West Bengal’s Malda district on Sunday. They said that upon noticing the floating carcass, the BSF officials cut it open and found that a live calf was inside.

“The calf’s legs were tied up and its eyes were covered with a strip of cloth. Its nose was visible through a hole in the carcass and the poor animal was barely able to breath,” a senior BSF official said.

The carcass was tied to a banana tree trunk with hyacinth grass to ensure it floats for a long time in the river. The cruel method for cattle smuggling was unraveled by the 44th battalion of BSF.

According to BSF sources, due to enhanced surveillance, cattle smugglers are starting to adopt such ruthless method from across the border.
