EC to visit J&K to review security

The Election Commission is likely to visit Jammu and Kashmir on Monday and Tuesday to assess the security situation in the state before announcing the schedule for the Lok Sabha polls.

The EC will review the security situation and assess the preparedness in Jammu and Kashmir to conduct the Lok Sabha elections in the state, particularly after the killing of over 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in a terror attack at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir.

Chief Election Commission Sunil Arora and Election Commissioners Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra will meet representatives of all major political parties, divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and district police chiefs of the state.

The EC is likely to announce the schedule of the Lok Sabha polls soon.
