Four persons were arrested and seven detained on Friday for an attack on a Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA's car in South 24 Parganas district.

Three persons including a TMC worker were killed in the attack on Thursday night. West Bengal’s CID has taken over the case from district police.

“We have detained seven persons in the case and have arrested four so far. Examination of CCTV footage at the petrol pump near which the attack took place played a crucial role. The detained may get arrested later tonight,” a CID official said.

He also said that investigation is continuing in the case and the number of arrests is likely to go up.

The vehicle of TMC MLA Biswanath Das was returning to Jayanagar after dropping an MLA to party rally when the attack took place at a petrol pump.

A group of about seven to eight armed miscreants hurled bombs at the car and fired indiscriminately killing three people.

Das has alleged that he was the target of the attack. While local TMC leaders alleged that CPM and SUCI were behind the attack, district CPM leadership claimed that the incident was an outcome of TMC’s faction feud.
