While Oscar-nominated director Ashutosh Gowariker’s latest film “What’s Your Rashee?” takes a comic look on the blind belief in astrology, Yash Raj Films’ Anurag Singh-directed cricket-‘n’-gender caper “Dil Bole Hadippa” tells the story of a girl who dresses up as a boy to play cricket in a village where the fair sex is forbidden from playing the sport.

“Dil Bole Hadippa,” slated for release on September 18, is being touted as a comeback vehicle for Rani Mukherjee, who in the film plays Veera Kaur, a girl in a Punjab village who disguised herself to become Veer Pratap Singh so that she can play cricket. Shahid Kapoor plays the male lead in the film. that also has Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil and Rakhee Sawant in its cast.

“What’s Your Rashee?” is  produced by UTV Motion Pictures and based on Madhu Arya’s Gujarati novel “Kimball Ravenswood.”  It is about a young man who is told that he must find his dream girl within ten days to save his family from ruin. Starring Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra, the film takes a comic look at the blind belief in astrology among a large section of Indians.

The TIFF, held every September, is considered among the most important film festivals in the world, and is claimed to be biggest audience-based festival. In recent years, it has given a lot of prominence to both mainstream and arthouse Indian cinema, thanks to the presence of a large NRI population in Canada.

Last year, “Heaven on Earth” by Deepa Mehta, who being a Canadian resident always finds her films showcased in the festival, Nandita Das’ “Firaaq” and Anees Bazmee’s Akshay Kumar-starrer “Singh is Kinng” had their gala premieres at the festival. “Dil Bole Hadippa” will have its gala premiere on September 13, while “What’s Your Rashee” will have its premiere on September 19.
