The fallout of its electoral setbacks in four states continued to haunt the Congress in Kerala with its strongest ally – the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) – urging the party to get its act together before next year’s Lok Sabha election.

K N A Khader, IUML state secretary, writing in the party mouthpiece “Chandrika” on Wednesday said it was time the Congress addressed its internal issues in the state ahead of next year’s election.

Elaborating on the Congress’ post-election stature, Khader said the party has to announce its commitment to secularism in stronger terms. The party should not follow policies in government that are in conflict with policies on which it came to power. In Kerala, the ruling UDF government has to ensure that its welfare schemes reach the people.

Through the analysis the IUML leader, however, urges the Congress to regain its stature by returning to its core strengths.
