Karnataka gets Rs 500 cr for flood relief

The department of expenditure in the Union ministry of finance issued the order on October 28 for the release of the first installment of the Central assistance that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced for the state’s deluge-hit region.

Singh had announced an interim relief of Rs 1,000 crore for relief and rehabilitation after doing an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas in north Karnataka on October 10 last.

The State government has sought Rs 6,600 crore as immediate relief, stating that rain and flashfloods between September 30 and October 2 had caused a loss of Rs 18,500 crore.
