A molestation accused was allegedly ''tonsured'' inside a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district on Sunday.

According to the reports, the accused, identified as Anees, a resident of Tavli village in the district, used to harass a girl of the same village.

The family members of the girl caught hold of Anees on Sunday and allegedly thrashed him after confining him in a room, reports said.

The accused was later handed over to the Behat police station. The cops summoned a barber and got him tonsured.

Reports said that the cops also misbehaved with the media personnel when they tried to record the tonsuring of the accused. The cameras of some photojournalists were also damaged.

Senior police officials in the district said that they had come to know about the incident through the local media and were looking into the matter.

The family members of the accused claimed that he had been falsely implicated in the case and attributed it to personal enmity.

Earlier also the police in Uttar Pradesh had come under attack for conniving with the criminals and torturing innocent people. Recently the cops at Makhi police station in state's Unnao district were accused of harassing and torturing the father of a teen, who had allegedly been raped by a BJP legislator.

The father of the rape victim died owing to the torture.
