With Congress going solo in West Bengal in the Lok Sabha elections the party has decided to enter the poll battle in the state with all guns blazing. After Rahul Gandhi’s recent rally in Bengal where he targeted both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Congress is actively considering sending Priyanka Gandhi to the state for campaigning.

“The state Congress leadership has submitted the proposal to send Priyanka Gandhi to West Bengal for campaigning. She has been enlisted as one of the star campaigners in the state along with Rahul Gandhi, Amarinder Singh, Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Baghel and Ghulam Navi Azad,” a senior state Congress leader told DH.

However, the AICC is yet to fix the schedule of their campaigning in Bengal. The development comes at a time when Bengal is all set to witness a four-way contest among Trinamool Congress (TMC), BJP, CPI(M)-led Left Front and Congress.

The State Congress leaders are looking forward to what Priyanka has to say about TMC and especially West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

“After years of abuse and assault Congress workers have faced at the hand of TMC in Bengal it would be a big boost for our workers if Priyanka takes on Banerjee in the same way as Rahul,” said the Congress leader.

He also said that State Congress president Somen Mitra is keen on bringing Priyanka to Bengal as the party considering its organisational weakness desperately needs to boost the morale of its workers.
