LS Polls: Sabse Achi Party, Jobless Kanhaiya, RG v/s RG

"Jobless" Kanhaiya Kumar fighting Union Minister Giriraj Singh, independent Rahul Gandhi taking on Congress' Rahul Gandhi, a party claiming to be the best party fielding a couple of candidates in Uttar Pradesh and another 'real' party fighting in Bihar.

The bits culled out from affidavits of candidates in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections pronounces their political stand irrespective of whether one would win or not.

The loudest political message came from CPI candidate in Bihar's Begusarai where Kanhaiya Kumar, a PhD holder and a youth icon, declared his himself a "berozgar" (jobless) who earn his bit from royalty through a book which he wrote and freelance writing.

With unemployment a major theme raised by the opposition across the country, his close aides said, Kumar (32) had no second thoughts while filling the portion about occupation and source of income. A vocal critic of the Narendra Modi regime, he is taking on BJP's Giriraj Singh, a staunch Hindutva proponent, and RJD's M Tanveer Ahmed.

For Congress' Rahul Gandhi, he has to deal with three Gandhis in Kerala's Wayanad -- a journalist, an MPhil holder, a Sanskrit teacher with a postgraduate degree.

One of them is 33-year-old Rahul Gandhi KE, an independent with a bank balance of just Rs 15 and total assets worth Rs 5,515, has an MPhil (in Linguistics) like the Congress president while K M Sivaprasad Gandhi (40) of the Indian Gandhian Party, a Sanskrit teacher. The third one is Raghul Gandhi K (30), a journalist with an anti-corruption magazine in Coimbatore and belonging to 'Agila India Makkal Kazhagam'.

BJP's Varun Gandhi, the cousin of Rahul, also has a namesake as his opponent in UP's Pilibhit.

In Mainpuri, Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav (79) has an older opponent in Hariram Shakya (81), who claims to be a former MLA, of Voters Party International.

A couple of parties with interesting names is contesting in western Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. If one wants the best party, they can join 'Sabse Achi Party' (the very best party), which has fielded a couple of candidates in western UP constituencies like Baghpat and Ghaziabad.

In what resembles Arvind Kejriwal's AAP, there is one Aapki Apni Party (Your own Party), which has also fielded candidates in the same region as that of Sabse Achi Party.

There is another party called 'Right to Recall Party' contesting in Uttar Pradesh, which campaigns for a provision to recall winners midway if the voters find their MPs or MLAs have not performed to their expectations.

In Madhepura, veteran leader Sharad Yadav is contesting, one of his opponents is from 'Asli Desi Party' (Real Desi Party).

There are several smaller parties contesting across India though many of them do not have a prospect of winning. While some contest for the sake of participating in the elections, some others are being propped up to cut votes of certain sections by major parties.
