Within minutes after the Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav announced that BSP and SP will get into an alliance for the Lok Sabha elections, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee welcomed the decision.
"I welcome the alliance of the SP and the BSP for the forthcoming elections," tweeted the Chief Minister on Saturday.
The development assumes significance as the Trinamool Congress ( TMC) supremo is looking forward to bring all major opposition parties on the same dais at her mega rally in Kolkata on January 19.
The rally is part of her effort to cobble up an anti-BJP alliance. She is keen on having Mayawati and Akhilesh at her January 19 rally.
