Modi attacks Cong over its anti-farmer policies

Last Updated 13 October 2018, 11:33 IST

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while speaking at a farmers rally in Punjab’s Malout on Wednesday targeted the Congress for its anti-farmer policies in last 70 years of its rule in the country.

Training guns at the Gandhi family, Modi said the Congress had betrayed farmers in the country. He said unscientific baseless policies were made for farmers while the entire establishment worked towards providing the best of best to one family.
“The country is aware of reality now. The Congress has only betrayed the farmers and used them as a vote bank,” he said. This was Modi’s first address to a large gathering of farmers after his government announced a sizable hike in the MSP of food grains last week.
Taking potshots at the Amarinder government, Modi asked why the state lagged behind in developmental parameters in the recent world bank's report, while Haryana (under the BJP rule) stood third in the country.
Modi used the occasion to urge farmers in states of Punjab and Haryana not burn stubble in farms as it leads to high levels of pollution.
