Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said that his party will not allow Prime Minister Narendra Modi to destroy the Constitution.

Speaking at Vijayawada for the first time after the elections were declared, he said that ‘divide India and steal from India’ is Modi's politics.

"Everybody knows the ultimate of goal of Modi is the destruction of the Constitution of India. Dalits, minorities, tribal, farmers, weaker sections everybody has a right to live in this country in peace. This country is not the personal property of one man or one organisation,” he said.

He said that there is an atmosphere of fear prevailing across the country.

"People are murdered, and women are raped. Dalits and minorities are attacked. This is the politics of Narendra Modi,” he said.

The AICC chief promised that if voted to power in Andhra Pradesh, the Congress would waive farm loans within two days after coming to power.

He also said that if voted to power at the Centre, according special category status to Andhra Pradesh would be one of the first things the Congress will do.

"It's surprising that the political parties in the state are not exerting enough pressure on the Modi government to fulfil the assurance given by the prime minister himself," Rahul said.

Rahul while making no direct reference to the TDP in his speech, targeted YSR Congress Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for corruption.

"You know that the state is struggling. You also know the corruption of Mr Jagan Reddy," he said.

Alleging that Modi dismantled everything the UPA had done, he said that the Congress gave the right to food security to the county, gave children meals in schools, and created new laws to protect lands of farmers, tribal people and Scheduled Castes.

He said that demonetisation hit small and middle size businesses, poor and farmers.

"Modi then brought GST further complicating life of small and middle size shopkeepers," Rahul said.

Rahul said that Modi snatched all the money and gave away to Anil Ambani, Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya.

Alleging that Modi declared war on poor and weak people of the country, he said that the Congress would declare war on poverty.

"The Congress will carry out surgical strike on poverty. We will give Nyay to the people of India. This is our non-violent weapon against poverty," he said.
