Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday initiated an enquiry after a video showing policemen manhandling a woman at a village in southern Shopian district went viral on social media.

Two policemen are seen manhandling the woman at her house in Shopian in the 15-second long video which surfaced on social media websites since morning.

A police spokesperson in a statement said that the police received a complaint from a man that his minor daughter was abducted with the intention of rape by Rameez Khan of Shadab Karewa. Khan, he said, is already married.

“As a police party raided the house of the accused to recover the abductee, they found two more accused Mohsin Khan and Saleem Khan in the house. While trying to effect the arrest of these accused, the other family members including women attacked the police to prevent them from affecting the lawful arrest of accused and successfully managed the escape of one of the accused,” the spokesperson said, adding that three policemen suffered injuries in the attack.

He said the video is being probed and an inquiry is ordered to examine the conduct of the policemen.
