Accusing the IIMs of continuously denying reservation for SC/ST and OBCs, a global network of alumni have urged the President’s and the Prime Minister’s “urgent intervention” to provide reservation in the IIM Bill.
In its open letter, the network that has members from across the globe has asked the government to avoid rushing through the Bill in its current form since it contains no provision for reservation at teaching and research positions.
They cited the diversity data from the top 10 IIMs obtained through Right To Information (RTI) Act showed severe under-representation of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes.
Calling the denial of reservation to candidates for its executive MBA programme for senior professionals and other management courses an “acute shortcoming”, the alumni said the IIMs are not ready for autonomy.
