Thousands of enthusiastic Congress supporters greeted newly appointed party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who held a roadshow in the state capital with her brother and party president Rahul Gandhi and party MP Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday.

Chanting slogans like 'Jai Jai Priyanka' and 'Indira is back', Congress supporters turned out in large numbers on the streets to welcome Priyanka.

The 15-kilometre long roadshow, that began from the Lucknow airport, passed through Alambagh, Charbagh, Hussainganj, Lalbagh, Hazratganj and ended at the party headquarters here.

People lined up on both sides of the road and greeted the Congress leaders as their specially designed vehicle passed. Flower petals were showered on them and a smiling Priyanka waved at the people and also accepted their greeting with folded hands.

People had also gathered on the roofs and balconies of their homes to have a glimpse of Priyanka.

Carrying banners, posters, tricolours and party flags, Congress workers had descended on the roads of the state capital from different parts of the state. The workers were seen jostling with each other to get near to Priyanka and Rahul.

Some party workers also carried a replica of the Rafale aircraft on which the Congress president has been targeting prime minister Narendra Modi.

Many Congress workers had painted their bodies in the color of the party flag. A group of party workers displayed Rahul's 'chowkidar' jibe at Modi.

It took more than five hours for Priyanka, Rahul and Scindia to cover a distance of 15-kilometres and reach the party headquarters.

The trio had to alight from their specially designed bus and board another smaller vehicle to avoid the overhead electric wires, when the cavalcade reached Hussainganj locality.

Rahul also addressed the crowd near Lalbagh and the three leaders also had a taste of tea at the iconic 'Sharma Tea'.

The leaders also garlanded the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, B.R.Ambedkar and Sardar Patel.
