<p>Mild tremors were felt in parts of Chennai after an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale was reported in the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday afternoon. </p>.<p>The earthquake took place at 12.35 pm and had a depth of 10 km, the National Centre for Seismology said on its website.</p>.<p>Many Chennaiites took to Twitter and Facebook to say they felt tremors in areas including Kodambakkam, Valasaravakkam, and Tiruvanmiyur among others. </p>.<p>There were no reports of damage to life or property.</p>.<p>According to the NCE, the quake was reported in the Bay of Bengal around 296 km south-southeast of Kakinada, 312 km south-southeast of Rajahmundry, 320 km east-northeast of Chennai, 339 km south-east of Guntur, and 386 km east-northeast of Tirupati.
