A special investigation team (SIT) under Kerala Additional Director General of Police Vinson M. Paul was formed Tuesday to probe the controversial shooting of two Indian fishermen by an Italian ship's security guards off Alappuzha Feb 15.
The team would be led by Kochi Police Commissioner M.R. Ajith Kumar, who hitherto was coordinating and facilitating the investigation since the incident took place. The team also includes Kollam Superintendent of Police Sam Christy Daniel.
Fishermen Ajesh Binki, 25, and Gelastine, 45, were mistaken for pirates and shot dead by two marines from the Italian cargo vessel. The two marines - Latorre Massimillano and Salvatore Girone - have been arrested.
