Sushri Debasree Chaudhuri- MoS for Women & Child Devt.

Last Updated 31 May 2019, 15:36 IST

Sushri Debasree Chaudhuri has been given the post of Minister of State in the Ministry of Child and Women Development in the 17th Lok Sabha under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Debasree Chaudhuri was introduced to politics during her college days. She has worked in the BJP's youth wing and women's front for many years in West Bengal.

She was promoted to the post of the General Secretary of the BJP's West Bengal a couple of years back.

Chaudhuri did not win both the previous elections she contested. In 2014, she stood from the Burdwan-Durgapur Lok Sabha constituency but finished third in her first attempt.

In 2016, she contested in the Assembly elections, which again was an unsuccessful attempt.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, she contested the Raiganj seat, which ultimately proved to be a good decision by the BJP, as she overcame her nearest rival, Kanaialal Agarwal of the TMC, by 60,574 votes. She also defeated Mohammed Salim of the CPI(M) and Deepa Dasmunsi of the Congress in the process.

Yesterday, she was sworn-in as a minister of state along with singer-turned-politican, Babul Supriyo.

The President appointed Narendra Modi as Prime Minister and administered the Oaths of Office and Secrecy to the Members of the Council of Ministers. Here’s a quick lowdown at the new Modi Cabinet.
