Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fielded an independent municipal councillor Parmila Tokas who has combined family assets worth over Rs 100 crore from RK Assembly constituency.

The party announced her candidature in its final list of eight candidates on Friday. She replaces former AAP leader Shazia Ilmi who had contested on the party ticket in December 2013 Assembly election.

Ilmi had resigned from the party after its drubbing in this year’s Lok Sabha elections alleging absence of inner party democracy.

The councillor’s businessman husband Dhiraj Kumar Tokas too had tested electoral waters from the same seat in the last Delhi Assembly polls, but on BSP’s ticket.

According to Tokas’s affidavit, the couple owned close to 20 properties – agricultural and residential – in Munirka, Kapashera, Bijwasan, Jharoda Kalan and Dichaon Kalan worth Rs 82.42 crore. They had movable property worth nearly Rs 18 crore.

The AAP said Parmila has been associated with the party for the last one year. She had won on the BSP’s ticket from ward number 166 (Munirka) in the 2012 municipal elections.

As per the councillor’s affidavit filed in 2012, her family owned immovable property worth Rs 46.22 crore – showing a quantum jump.

Besides the high net worth individual, the party has fielded Ajay Dutt from Ambedkar Nagar in place of former legislator Ashok Kumar Chauhan. He had quit the party to join the BJP after being denied a ticket. Pankaj Pushkar has replaced former party MLA Harish Khanna, who had written to the party leadership expressing his unwillingness to stand for the elections.

The list also includes the name of AAP’s student wing president Sarita Singh. She has been fielded from Rohtash Nagar Assembly constituency. The party has now named candidates for all the 70 constituencies of Delhi Assembly.
