Three cricket fans die after WC loss

India’s loss at the World Cup cricket semi-final has claimed at least three lives in Uttar Pradesh even as two others, who tried to kill themselves, are battling for their lives.

According to reports, 17-year-old youth Mohit Pandey of Naseerpur village in Pratapgarh killed himself by hanging with a rope from a tree immediately after Thursday’s encounter ended. In another incident, 60-year-old Mohabbat Ali, a resident of Kakroli in Muzaffarnagar, died of heart attack at his residence.

A 30-year-old man also killed himself by jumping from the seventh floor of the state secretariat building. In Jhansi, a youth named Abbu Rajput set himself ablaze and has been admitted to hospital in critical condition. Twenty-eight-year-old Munna Bind, a resident of Suriyawan in Bhadohi, jumped into a well near his residence on Thursday. Some locals, however, brought him out with a rope.
