TMC MLA’s murder: Roy files anticipatory bail plea

Days after he was booked along with three other persons in relation to the murder of a TMC MLA, BJP leader Mukul Roy on Tuesday approached the Calcutta High Court seeking anticipatory bail.

TMC MLA Satyajit Biswas from Krishnaganj Assembly constituency was shot dead by miscreants on Saturday. Two persons have been arrested in the case so far.

Roy claimed that he was named in the FIR due to “political vendetta.”

“My client (Roy) has been slapped with 25 criminal cases since he left the TMC and joined the BJP. The latest case adds one more to the list,” Roy's lawyer Subhashish Dasgupta said.

Dasgupta also said that the appeal is likely to come up for for hearing on Wednesday before the division bench presided by Justice Joymalo Bagchi.

Biswas was shot dead from point blank range on Saturday during a cultural programme in the Majdia-Phulbari area of Nadia district.
